Recently, Nature “Nature Focus-China’s Vision of Carbon Neutralization” published an interview with Professor Tu Shandong of ECUST. In the interview article titled “Making A Greener China”, Professor Tu Shandong elaborated the concept of reliable manufacturing under the vision of carbon neutrality.

In this article, Professor Tu summarizes the contributions made by ECUST in the past 70 years in the fields of efficient utilization of fossil resources, development of alternative resources, clean production, and life extension of equipment. To name a few, the development of gasification instead of combustion has changed coal from non-renewable fossil fuels to chemical raw materials with more effective emission reduction; the physical environmental separation technology with the characteristics of “five times” has been developed, which has saved the energy consumption of separation and achieved low carbon and near zero emission in process industry. Futhermore, in the interview Professor Tu Shandong also introduced to the world the recent plans of ECUST in carbon neutral discipline construction, personnel training and the long-term mission of shaping China’s green manufacturing.
